To deepen students’ understanding of global warming, we were honoured to have Mr. Cheung Wai Yin, a polar exploration expert, lead an expedition to the glaciers of Switzerland in July 2024.
The journey began at the Institute of Earth Surface Dynamics at the University of Lausanne, where students engaged in glacier research. They then explored the Aletsch Glacier area and Saas Fee, participating in glacier studies and outdoor lectures. Students practiced ice climbing, learned to use ice drills to interpret the stories told by ice cores, and observed the local flora and fauna in the Swiss mountains.
Throughout the expedition, students gained a profound awareness of the effects of global warming on glaciers and extreme weather.
