Co-organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Science Park and Hong Kong Technology Education Association, the Green Innovation Challenge 2019 provides students with an opportunity to create innovative solutions to “Green Classrooms”.
Our team invented the product “AITrash”, an Arduino device that recycles plastic bottles in an automatic and systematic way. This device accepts a significantly wider range of plastic bottle types, including types 1, 3, 5 and 7. In addition, in consideration of the rich sunlight in our school in daytime, a solar panel is installed on the device to generate electricity, which, in turn, makes the device self-sustained. Besides, AI technology is adopted to identify plastic bottle types automatically. In this way, there is no need for manual input of barcode data.
