Ocean Park Conservation Alliance: Butterfly Citizen Scientist

This project is organized by the Ocean Park Conservation Alliance. It is the first citizen scientist project investigating butterflies by secondary students in Hong Kong. Conservation Chill Club Carnival Opening Ceremony

Two students from our Green Guru Team participated in the Ixora chinensis Planting Activity and the Conservation Chill Club Opening Ceremony held by Ocean Park on 1st April. One of the I. chinensis in our Butterfly Friendly Garden which had been taken care of by the Green Guru Team for half a year was transplanted into Ocean Park to build the Ocean Park’s butterfly garden together. Eight of our students have participated in the fourth Hong Kong Specimen Drawing Competition as presented by the Hong Kong Branch of the Royal Society of Biology in December 2019. Our School Won the ‘Most Observations’, ‘Most Species’ and ‘Most Observers’ Awards in the Hong Kong Inter-School City Nature Challenge 2019

The Hong Kong Inter-School City Nature Challenge (HKISCNC) is a friendly week-long competition in which secondary schools find and log the most species in and around their campus to gather more data on Hong Kong’s urban biodiversity. Amazon on fire – Signature Campaign to conserve Amazon forests

Green Gurus of our school launched the “Amazon on fire” Signature Campaign on 27 Sept 2019 (Fri) on campus. Some scholars have pointed out that the Amazon rain forest, known as the “Lungs of the Earth”, handles 5% to 20% of the world’s photosynthesis every year. It plays an important role in restraining climate change as it can absorb and store large amounts of carbon. A Seed Planting Ceremony named “Education for Sustainable Development and Biodiversity: Space-Exposed Seed Nursery Programme” was launched by UNESCO(HK) in Ta Ku Ling Ling Ying Public School on 9 March 2019 (Sat). Demonstration Lesson of the Chief Executive’s Award for Teaching Excellence

Our school collaborated with the Education Bureau to launch a demonstration lesson showcasing the Chief Executive Award for Teaching Excellence for teachers in the territory on 19 February 2019. Our Assistant Principal Mr. Ho Tik Shun demonstrated the use of mobile learning to facilitate students to explore strategies of plants on optimization of photosynthesis and reduction in water loss in our school Environmental Trail. The exploration was followed by group discussion and feedback sessions. A post-lesson session was launched to allow professional sharing amongst teachers.

Visit to Botanical Art Exhibition of Prof. Zeng Xiao Lian

To nurture students’ interest on biodiversity and arts, the Green Guru Team organized a visit to Botanical Art Exhibition of Prof. Zeng Xiao Lian.  Professor Zeng Xiao Lian is a professor grade illustrator in Kunming Institute of Botany, The Chinese Academy of Sciences, a member of China Artists Association, and was the chairperson of the Botanical Scientific Illustration Society of China, Botanical Society of China.
