Honey Bee Conservation Signature Campaign

In order to raise awareness of biodiversity and species conservation, Green Gurus has organized a Honey Bee Conservation Signature Campaign. Honey bee has a paramount role in the ecosystem. Almost 75% of crops are pollinated by bees and other insects, making agriculture and food production possible. However, urbanization and pesticides are threatening their survival. CFSS joined Town Hall Meeting of Public Engagement on Control of Single-use Plastics organised by Council for Sustainable Development, HKSAR on 22/11

CFSS is one of the only two invited schools for the Town Hall Meeting. 7 Environmental Prefects, led by Deputy Principal Wong Siu Kwong Jacky and Teacher-in-charge of Sustainable Team Tong Man Chung Jacky, joined it. Among the 70 participants of different stakeholders, CFSS participants actively expressed suggestions to policies to cut the single-use plastic in Hong Kong in future. Learning Activity in Ocean Park

To enrich students’ learning experience and to build up the harmonious relationships among students and teachers, S1 to S4 students went to Ocean Park on 22nd July 2021. S1 and S2 students participated in animal programme, S3 students participated in STREAM programme, and S4 students participated in career programme. Through the programmes, students understand how Ocean Park works in preserving the environment, promoting the STREAM, and career prospects. Although it was very hot that day, the event bought beautiful memory to the students and teachers.

Interdisciplinary Field Trip to Zero Carbon Building (ZCB)

An interdisciplinary field trip to Zero Carbon Building (ZCB) was organized on 16 February 2019 in collaboration with Biology, Visual Art, Geology and Information & Communication Technology Department. To let students well-equipped with related skills for the trip, a pre-trip workshop was launched on 15 February 2019 as well. Popular STREAM Workshop – Identifying Succulents and Cacti

Green Gurus of our school launched a Popular STREAM activity titled “Identifying Succulents and Cacti” Workshop after school on 13 December 2018. Students took reference from the Popular Science books stationed in Reading Paradise of our Main Roof to study plant taxonomy. Then, students identified and labelled these succulents and cacti in Environmental Trail and Main Roof. Our school had joined the “Connecting Students with Nature through STEAM” programme” launched by Ocean Park. The event offered teachers a unique opportunity to use the Park’s rides, animal exhibits, and conservation resources to inspire in students a boundless imagination and to encourage them to explore the principles of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) through lively learning experiences. Our School emphasizes the engagement of all our stakeholders in environmental protection programmes. Professor Kobori and Ms. Emu Miyashita from Tokyo City University Visiting CFSS

Professor Hiromi Kobori and her PhD student, Ms. Emu Miyashita, from Faculty of Environmental Studies of Tokyo City University paid a warm visit to our school on 14 September 2018. Professor Kobori is a world-renowned expert on environmental toxicology while Ms. Emu Miyashita is the Ambassador (Japan) of the CitizenScience.Asia Alliance. In the visit, we exchanged ideas on fostering self-directed learning in school and promoting citizen science to the community.
