HKSciFest 2017 – Unveiling the Magic Behind Chinese Herbs

Housing more than 1000 plant species, our School provides a good learning platform of the uses of medicinal plants and conservation on plant biodiversity for the public through mobile learning. In this workshop, participants can explore the details of herbs in a boundless setting in Environmental Trail and Medicinal Plant Garden on our rooftop. They can acquire basic concepts of plant properties and their uses together with simple species identification skills, to promote the use of plants for the health of the society.

Visit to T. Park Environmental Education Centre

Our Sustainable Development Ambassadors joined the visit organized by GAIA CUHK to the T. Park Environmental Education Centre in Tuen Mun this February. T. Park is a self-sustained unit. It is an incinerator, an on-site desalination plant and a leisure and educator centre. Through this visit, students acquired the exemplary practice of sustainability in Hong Kong.

PTA and Teachers Join Hands to Promote Environmental Protection Awareness

CFSS has been participating in the “One Person, One Flower Scheme” under the Green Hong Kong Campaign (Leisure and Cultural Services Department) for years. This year, the CFSS Sustainable Development (SD) Team and Parent– Teacher Association joined hands to promote this green concept to families by organizing the “One Family, One Pot Activity”. Leadership Training series on green leaders: Wildlife Photography Seminars by Mr. Xi Zhinong

40 teachers and students of our school visited the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change in CUHK on 17 January 2015 (Sat) to further realize the alarming situations of polar climate change and global warming. Plant Specimen Collection Workshop

The Science and Technology Education Enhancement Team and the Science Club co-organized a pilot program on plant specimen preparation in October and November this year. This workshop aimed at training students to identify and collect plant specimen on the campus. Under highly technological teaching pedagogies, students experienced biodiversity, appreciation of nature and environmental conservation in a practical manner. Sea Turtle Conservation Signature Campaign

Sea turtles are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters. Yet, they are facing several threats: from egg-stealing to massive slaughter by bottom trawling and accidents from lining fishing methods. Sea turtles have rarely entered Hong Kong waters since 2005. Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme 2012-2013

To enhance students’ consciousness on environmental conservation, our School has joined the Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme launched by Hong Kong Ocean Park. 9 students from S.3 and S.4 have formed a core group, aiming to rear living fossil Chinese Horseshoe Crab (Tachypleus tridentatus) juveniles and arouse schoolmates’ awareness on horseshoe crab conservation. Ma Wan Tree Blossom Event

The activity, Tree Blossom Guided Tour, was organized by Ma Wan Park. On that day, Mr Sammy Au, Station Manager of ISA HK/China and the first Registered Consulting Arborist in Asia, who is a professional arborist, shared his precious experiences about trees. Also, he led our students to explore more in knowledge on trees via an apps on iPhone or iPad in Ma Wan Park.

HK SciFest2017 – Fun Science Carnival

Our school co-organized with Hong Kong Science Museum during HK SciFest 2017 – Fun Science Carnival on 18 and 19 Feb 2017. The theme of our stall is “Correct Planting, Mosquito No Way!”. Our school advocated suitable growth of plants to the public to combat against mosquito breeding and related infections of Dengue Fever and Zika in the stall. Voluntary Child Service: Finding an Urban Oasis

Led by Social Service Group and Green Guru Team, our school co-organized a voluntary child service project called “Finding an Urban Oasis” with the Chinese YMCA (Chai Wan Center) on 20 July 2015 (Mon) to have green adventures with 50 children on campus. Our school’s green leaders wanted to spread the message of sustainable development and care for the children by letting them understand the importance of plant biodiversity and environmental conservation, installing the concepts of sustainability and care for others into voluntary service.
