Our School Won the ‘Most Observations’, ‘Most Species’ and ‘Most Observers’ Awards in the Hong Kong Inter-School City Nature Challenge 2019

The Hong Kong Inter-School City Nature Challenge (HKISCNC) is a friendly week-long competition in which secondary schools find and log the most species in and around their campus to gather more data on Hong Kong’s urban biodiversity. With the high level of students’ engagement, our school won the ‘Most Observations’, ‘Most Observers’ and ‘Most Species’ with 4575 observations, 278 observers and 509 observed species respectively. CFSS Grabbing Champion in the Green Innovation Challenge 2019

Co-organized by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Science Park and Hong Kong Technology Education Association, the Green Innovation Challenge 2019 provides students with an opportunity to create innovative solutions to “Green Classrooms”. CFSS Grabbing Outstanding Smart City Project Award (Senior Section) and Commendable Smart City Project Award (Junior Section) in the Education Bureau Smart City Project Programme 2018/19

Two teams in our school took part in the Education Bureau Smart City Project Programme 2018/19, a competition which gives students an opportunity to create innovative products for the development of Smart City in Hong Kong. The senior team invented the product “AITrash”. It is an Arduino device that adopts Internet of Things (IoT), Big Data and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to facilitate plastic recycling in the community. CFSS Students with Outstanding Performance in the Secondary School Mathematics and Science Competition 2019

Secondary School Mathematics & Science Competition 2019 was organized by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in early May this year. Our S.5B student Huang Jie Lin received the fruitful result of a Medal honour in the category of Mathematics. In addition, nine more students attained the honour of High Distinction in the category of Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Our Students Participated in the Colorimetry Workshop in HKBU

10 S.4 students participated a colorimetry workshop organized by HKBU in late June. By applying the principles of colorimetry, students can monitor the level of nitrogen dioxide in the air. After setting up a few passive air samplers in the laboratory and roadside, students went back and listened to the professors about the principles behind of the workshops. At last, students can find the level of the air pollutants by using the mobile application “ChemEye” to detect the colour intensity.

Amgen Biotech Experience (ABE) Programme

The Chinese University of Hong Kong and The Amgen Foundation collaborate to introduce “Amgen Biotechnology Experience (ABE) Programme” to Hong Kong schools, so that teachers can bring biotechnology experiments to real practice in the lessons. This enables students to unveil the details of daily applications of biotechnology nowadays. It has been the third year of our school to join the ABE Programme. The Hong Kong Student Science Project Competition 2019 (jointly organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups, the Education Bureau, the Hong Kong Science Museum and supported by the Innovation and Technology Commission and Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation) is a significant science competition for secondary schools.
