CFSS Honoured in Sustainable Development School Award Programme 2014-2016

CFSS was honoured again in the prize presentation ceremony of the 2014-2016 Sustainable Development School Award Programme, held on 16 July 2016. The Programme was launched in June 2014, and themed on “Waste Reduction at Source” as a continuous education drive to follow up on the CSD’s recent public engagement process on “Municipal Solid Waste Charging”. International Sustainable World (Energy, Engineering & Environment) Project Olympiad (I-SWEEEP) is a sustainable development science research project contest jointly organized by the Cosmos Foundation (CF) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) in the United States. HKSciFest 2017 – Unveiling the Magic Behind Chinese Herbs

Housing more than 1000 plant species, our School provides a good learning platform of the uses of medicinal plants and conservation on plant biodiversity for the public through mobile learning. In this workshop, participants can explore the details of herbs in a boundless setting in Environmental Trail and Medicinal Plant Garden on our rooftop. They can acquire basic concepts of plant properties and their uses together with simple species identification skills, to promote the use of plants for the health of the society.

Leadership Training series on green leaders: Wildlife Photography Seminars by Mr. Xi Zhinong

40 teachers and students of our school visited the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change in CUHK on 17 January 2015 (Sat) to further realize the alarming situations of polar climate change and global warming. Plant Specimen Collection Workshop

The Science and Technology Education Enhancement Team and the Science Club co-organized a pilot program on plant specimen preparation in October and November this year. This workshop aimed at training students to identify and collect plant specimen on the campus. Under highly technological teaching pedagogies, students experienced biodiversity, appreciation of nature and environmental conservation in a practical manner. Sea Turtle Conservation Signature Campaign

Sea turtles are widely distributed in tropical and subtropical waters. Yet, they are facing several threats: from egg-stealing to massive slaughter by bottom trawling and accidents from lining fishing methods. Sea turtles have rarely entered Hong Kong waters since 2005. Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme 2012-2013

To enhance students’ consciousness on environmental conservation, our School has joined the Juvenile Horseshoe Crab Rearing Programme launched by Hong Kong Ocean Park. 9 students from S.3 and S.4 have formed a core group, aiming to rear living fossil Chinese Horseshoe Crab (Tachypleus tridentatus) juveniles and arouse schoolmates’ awareness on horseshoe crab conservation.
