Mr. Nicholas Rosellini, UN resident coordinator in China, visited our school and shared with our teachers on the 17 sustainable development goals on 28th September 2017. He answered a lot of our questions and gave insight on how we can take a balance in order to strive for sustainable development. Through the conversations with him, the teachers could understand more on how different countries are working towards sustainable development goals.
Professor Marsall W Meyer from the University of Pennsylvania paid a visit to our School on 25th September 2017. He gave a talk titled “Learning from China: learning a global mindset” to our S3 and S5 students. Prof. Meyer shared his experience in China since 1992. The speedy development of China impresses him a lot. Dr Michael Spence, Vice-Chancellor and Principal of The University of Sydney, visited our school on 7th September 2017. He shared with our S.4 and S.5 students the benefits of global education. He advised them to prepare for global perspectives and cross-disciplinary learning during their studies.
Mr. Yung Wing Ki, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, elaborated on the topic of Belt and Road Initiatives on 28th June 2017. He shared his own experience of interacting with people in other countries and the benefits that Hong Kong people may obtain from Belt and Road Initiatives.
Dr. Yang Liwei, Mr. Jing Haipeng and Mr. Chen Dong visited our school and discussed the latest development of aerospace technology in China on 28th June 2017. On 17th May 2017, Professor Liang Digang , an expert in oil exploration and development in China, gave a talk to our students about his life as a geologist, and how oil was found in Northern China. The exploration was really not easy. However, due to the sincere attitude of the geologists in China, the oil production has been exponentially increased in the past few decades. Mr. Wong Man Kong, a successful entrepreneur, visited our school on 20 December 2016 to shared his experience with our teachers and students on the development of silk road in the past 20 years. He shared with us the importance of ‘belt and road initiative’ and how the initiative can create new opportunities to the next generations.
Mr. Sugiyama Mitsumaru and Ms. Kohno Yasue, whose grandparents subsidized the activities of Dr. Sun Yat-Sen in 1900s, visited our school on 10 December. Our students shared with them how Hong Kong students understood the Dr. Sun’s contribution to China. Ms. Kohno Yasue gave a talk on the precious friendship between Japan and China. Moreover, she elaboartoed on her organization’s understandin of Dr. Sun’s history. It was a good chance for the students to learn the history of Sun Yat-Sen from a global perspective.
Mr. Joseph Kahama visited our school on 25th October 2016. He gave a speech on “Treasures of Tanzania Safari”. Tanzania was a peaceful place with a lot of precious animals. He introduced the beauty of Tanzania, but stressed the importance of sustainable development to preserve the place. Mr. Joseph Kahama presented three African plants to our school, adding spice to our Environmental Trail.
