Mobile Learning in CFSS

Phase 4 (2012-present)

We are implementing Bring Your Own Device ( BYOD) project on campus. Students will be divided into several small groups and learn with their own mobile devices under supervision.   This promotes effectively the culture of self-directed learning.

Besides, a list of reforms on Mobile Learning is underway.  We keep introducing new teaching and learning packages to teachers in order to delivery different kind of learning experience. We can see that the new teaching model can arouse students’ interests to learn and understand specific knowledge and skills.

Further interaction features are being developed. Outstanding feedback by students will be stored in the thread that being commented in CFSS Knowledge Base.  This shows our appreciation on their hard works.

Phase 3 (2010-2012)

We tried to integrate the Mobile Learning concepts into regular curriculum. Science was the first discipline to use Mobile Learning to teach the whole S.3 students about bio-diversity through plants and trees with the use of mobile devices and QR-codes.

We cooperated with different departments since then to help integrating Mobile Learning into their regular curriculums.

Interaction is added to further attract our students to participate in doing self-directed learning. Students were asked to study two to three plants and give feedback on top of the information we have provided.

Phase 2 (2008-2009)

We implemented successfully the new network structure to make teaching and learning more effective with the use of mobile devices along with several collaborative learning packages.  Students enjoyed very much this newly-introduced teaching and learning model.

The Hong Kong Institute of Education (HKIED) was invited to cooperate with us to evaluate the effectiveness of using Mobile Learning in teaching and learning. The result was very positive which encouraged us to further develop and promote this teaching and learning model.

Phase 1 (2007-2008)

We tried to use smart phone to promote self-directed learning through trees and plants in the campus.  We chose to use QR-code and MS tag to let our students to learn with smart phones.

We believed that video is a powerful mean in conveying knowledge to students. Therefore, we teamed up the HD Campus TV to record introductory video for plants. Since then, students can learn by observation, text and also video.
