Professor Lin Hui, who has expertise in Virtual Geographic Environments, visited our School and gave a talk to S.4 Geography students on 16th February, 2023. He shared with our students vividly on the interesting stories and advanced application of maps, and the prospects of Geography as a career.
A group of students worked on their NASA Car Models in Art Room, incorporating the concept of aerospace science, sustainable development into their artwork in consideration of the geology on the planet surface. The artwork was then displayed in the School Hall for demonstration in the Aerospace Science and STREAM Exhibition of our school in Oct 2021.
A group of CFSS teachers and students visited the Jockey Club Museum of Climate Change in CUHK on 25 October 2018. Dr. Rebecca Lee Lok Sze and Professor Li Yuan-sheng delivered a talk titled “Polar Ice Melting and Global Climate Change”. Dr. Lee also shared her experience on the trips to the two Poles and Mount Everest. Students enjoyed her fruitful sharing much and asked a lot of follow-up questions in the seminar.
3 staff from Hong Kong Geopark office were invitied to give a talk about the Earth’s history and evolution of species on 9th May 2017. About 53 students attended the talk abd their positive responses showed that the talk has successfully aroused the awareness towards the Earth’s history.
A boat trip to the NE geosites of Hong Kong Geopark was organised on 6th May 2017. Students were able to enjoy the remarkable coastal landforms at Tolo Channel. They also learnt about the cultural environmental through orienteering activities. Students were able to learn more about Hong Kong Geopark, especially the Ap Chau and Kat O areas.
Our school led our students to visit the special exhibition“T-Rex Revealed” Exhibition organized by the Hong Kong Science Museum pn 18th February 2017. Making use of Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR) technologies, the exhibition created an innovative and adventurous experience, taking students into the world of the dinosaurs. Students were able to learn more about dinosaurs and the evolution of organisms. Before the visit to the Exhibition, two Geology Ambassador, Henry Law Chung Hin and Bethany Chiu Yuen Tung, were invitied to give a talk about T-Rex.…
What are rock strata, sedimentation and sedimentary rock? Junior students may find these concepts difficult. A series of rock cuisine workshop was organized during the post-exam period in July 2016. Through making a unique-styled Macau Pudding, students learnt the processes of sedimentary rock formation such as erosion, deposition and lithification. Participants were impressed by the workshop.
Geology Ambassadors are always provided with opportunities to join public events and competitions. On 2nd and 3rd April 2016, Geology Ambassadors participated in the Science and Technology Innovation Competition took place in the Science Park. They got Merit Award and earned a fruitful experience from the competition.
On 18th and 19th March, 2016, our school had the Annual Open Day. Student-centred workshops were held in GCCRC. Games and experiments were organised for the public. The visitors enjoyed the workshops and were very delighted to learn something about Hong Kong Geology. We cooperated with the Science Museum of Hong Kong to organize the Science Festival 2016. A workshop was held on 12th March 2016 to arouse public concern towards the importance of geological resources and the role they play in achieving sustainable development in Hong Kong.
