| 主治
用於熱毒血痢。本品苦寒降泄，清熱解毒，涼血止痢，尤善於清胃腸濕熱及血分熱毒，為治熱毒血痢的良藥。可單用，或配伍黃連、黃柏、秦皮同用，如白頭翁湯。近年來用本品治療細菌性痢疾及阿米巴痢疾，均有良好效果。 此外，本品與秦皮配伍，煎湯外洗，可用治陰癢（滴蟲性陰道炎）；與柴胡、黃芩、檳榔配伍，還可用於治療瘧疾。
