| 習性：喜溫暖濕潤氣候，喜陽光，以較肥沃的土壤為佳。需要充足水分條件，但不宜積水，怕澇。

Growth habit: Favours a warm and moist climate and sunlight, best grown in fertile soil. Requires adequate aquatic conditions, but should not be in ponding.

| 葉：基生葉圓心形，淺裂，葉交互對生，有柄，青綠色，質鮮嫩，揉之有汁
|
Leaf: Green basal leaves with petiole, palmately lobed, opposite decussate leaves.
Secretion of fluid when rubbed. |
| 花：輪繖花序腋生，具花8～15朵；小苞片針刺狀，無花梗。花冠唇形，淡紅色或紫紅色。花期6～9月。
|
Flower: Axillary cymes, has 8-15 flowers. Acupuncture-like bracteoles without pedicel.
Light red or purple labiate corolla. Flowering period is from June to September. |
| 果：小堅果褐色，三棱形，上端較寬而平截，基部楔形，長約2.5mm。果期7～10月。
|
Fruit: Small brown nuts in triangular shape. Upper part is wider and flatter, with a wedge-shaped base, 2.5 mm in length. Fruit matures between July and October.

Slightly cold in nature, bitter and spicy in taste. Promotes the flow of blood to regulate menstruation. Diuretic, detumescent and detoxifying |

月經期不宜使用益母草，因為益母草有活血的效果，如果在月經期使用會加重月經量 |
